WHMIS / Food Safe
Before getting your HCA certificate, you must complete a WHMIS and Food Safe course and get your certificates. We prefer that you have these certificates before your enroll. The courses you need to take are short (one day), and should cost between $25 and $80 each. Below are a few links and contacts.

WHMIS courses are available online from St. John Ambulance, the Canadian Centre for Occupational Health and Safety, and from YOW Canada.
Thompson Rivers University offers WHMIS courses.
If you are not in Kamloops, and don't like online courses, call First Aid and Occupational Safety training organizations in your area.
Food Safe:
HCA's are required to have their Food Safe 1 certificate. Go to the Food Safe web site for information on the requirements and training programs available.

If you have already taken your Food Safe, but cannot find your certificate, you may be able to get a replacement by calling the Public Health office in your community. In Kamloops, call (250) 851-7300.
